Last week I posted a list of some songs I like and had the idea that it might be fun for everyone reading this to post a song each weekend. Lets see if we can get something going. Post an old favourite or one you’ve just discovered. Tell us why you’re sharing it if you like, if it brings any thoughts. Or just post some interesting music. Don’t let this put you off posting songs any other time, I just thought it would be a fun thing to do.
Ill start with this:
Slayer - Disciple http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5Hf-KJYE7zs.
You shouldn’t trust anyone that doesn’t listen to Slayer - to quote Tom Whitehead “Everyone likes Slayer.”
I could talk about Slayer (or SLAYER!) all day, Ive had good fun being a fan of theirs, but that could be a blog for another time. For now just listen to the song.
And in the words of the Nerdfighters, Don’t Forget To Be Awesome (DFTBA).
Next week I plan to watch the DVDs of Carl Sagan’s Cosmos, the renowned popular science series from 1980, so I thought id post something here about Carl Sagan.
Carl Sagan is one of my heroes, a great scientist and a great man. Sagan is known for his discoveries of the surface temperature of Venus and his research into extraterrestrial biology. He made predictions about the atmosphere and surface of Titan, that were proved correct by the spacecraft Galileo. Carl was also a prolific promoter of science and scepticism, the world would have been a poor place without him.
In 1977 the Voyager 1 spacecraft was launched to study the outer Solar System. In 1990, from a distance of around 6 billions kilometers, it took a photograph of Earth. The photo is known as the Pale Blue Dot and inspired Sagan to write some of the most moving and beautiful thoughts:

Listen to them in your high-backed armchair.
The first thing that I would like to tell you about is the comic series Locke and Key by writer Joe Hill and artist Gabriel Rodriguez.
![]()
This series is fantastic. The set up is that in the wake of a tragedy a family moves to a house filled with magical keys. It is simultaneously scary, beautiful and funny with moments of depth and experimentation reminiscent of Alan Moore at his best.
Locke and Key is one of the greatest comic series ever, easily up there with Sandman, and definitely worth your time.
Volume 5 out of 6 (with a collection of one-shots coming after the series has ended) has just been released. Here is a link to buy Volume 1: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Locke-Key-Volume-Welcome-Lovecraft/dp/1600102379/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1344469593&sr=8-2.
I also recommend Joe Hill’s novels Heart-Shaped Box and Horns, they are very good.
Now then,
My lovely girlfriend (http://josiemm1013.tumblr.com/) has started reusing her blog so I got thinking and decided that I would give it another go. Im not that interested in a diary and I rarely update my facebook status, so I think this will be recommendations of things that I am currently enjoying. Hopefully you’ll give them a try.
